Policy and Procedures for Helping Hands Initiative

1. Volunteer Recruitment and Onboarding

  • How does an individual sign up to volunteer?

View upcoming volunteer opportunities and sign up for a shift on our events page. If you have questions or need assistance with specific volunteer dates, email us at Chelsea@pityfitness.com

  • How old do you have to be to volunteer?

Volunteers must be at least 10 years old with a chaperone (18+), or 16 years old without a chaperone. Please keep in mind age restrictions may vary slightly depending on sight being volunteered or served at.

  • How can I sign up my group to volunteer?

If you have a group of five or more volunteers, please email chelsea@pityfitness.com with your group name, the number of volunteers, and your preferred volunteer event.

2. Roles and Responsibilities

  • Role Descriptions: The roles and responsibilities for volunteers will vary depending on the specific volunteer or serving opportunity. Each position will be tailored to the needs of the project or event, ensuring alignment with the organization's goals and objectives.

  • Adaptability: Volunteers should be prepared to adapt to different tasks and responsibilities as needed. Flexibility is key to addressing the dynamic needs of various projects and ensuring that the organization’s goals are met efficiently.

  • Commitment and Accountability: Volunteers are expected to honor their agreed-upon schedules and commitments. If you sign up for a specific time slot or task, please make every effort to fulfill your commitment.

3. Code of Conduct

  • Behavior Expectations: Volunteers are expected to treat all individuals, including fellow volunteers, staff members, and community members, with respect and courtesy. This includes listening actively, communicating clearly, and addressing others politely.

  • Zero Tolerance for Harassment: Any form of harassment, discrimination, or inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated. This includes but is not limited to verbal abuse, bullying, or any behavior that creates a hostile environment.

  • Responsibility and Integrity: Volunteers are expected to act with honesty and integrity in all interactions. Misrepresentation or dishonest behavior undermines the trust and effectiveness of the program.

  • Dress Code: Volunteers should wear clothing that is appropriate for the tasks they are performing and respectful of the setting in which they are working. This may include specific guidelines for uniforms, safety gear, or casual attire, depending on the nature of the volunteer work.

  • Personal Grooming: Volunteers are expected to maintain a clean and professional appearance. Personal hygiene should be attended to, and attire should be free from offensive or inappropriate content.

  • Confidentiality: Volunteers must respect and protect confidential information encountered during their service. This includes not disclosing personal or sensitive information about individuals or organizational matters.

4. Safety and Emergency Procedures

  • Safety Gear: When required, volunteers must wear provided safety gear and follow any dress code requirements related to safety and functionality.

  • Emergency Contacts: Ensure that volunteers have access to emergency contact numbers, including local emergency services, program coordinators, and facility managers. Contact information should be readily available at all volunteer sites.
